Mary Lu Abbott, a gifted writer and award-winning travel editor, helped launch Where to Retire in 1992. Since then, she has become a leading authority on the ins and outs of retirement relocation.

A graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in Journalism, Abbott spent more than 20 years at the Houston Chronicle working her way from a features writer to the coveted spot of travel editor before joining Vacation Publications in 1989.

Covering hundreds of miles on every scouting trip, Abbott continually seeks intriguing destinations, charming towns and evolving trends. She said, “I love getting out to see what’s happening around the country, how areas we’ve featured are changing, what’s new in home development and to find undiscovered gems for retirement.”

Abbott is dedicated to bringing accurate and interesting relocation news and features to Where to Retire’s readers. “We will expand coverage as we see trends and new directions in retirement.
